About the system

What is a hotel doorbell / DND system? It is an electronic system that replaces the paper “Do Not Disturb” card. An outdoor digital door plate shows the room number and lights up Do Not Disturb (DND) or Make Up Room (MUR) status, while an indoor touch panel lets the guest set that status and control the doorbell. When DND is active, the doorbell is disabled so the guest is not disturbed.

What does the complete hotel room management system include? A typical system combines an outdoor digital door plate, an indoor DND/MUR touch panel, a doorbell, and a card-key energy saver switch, plus optional touch light/curtain switches and wall sockets — all wired together as one room solution.

What do DND and MUR mean? DND (Do Not Disturb) is the guest’s privacy request; the doorbell is silenced and the outdoor plate shows the DND icon. MUR (Make Up Room) is the guest’s cleaning request; the outdoor plate lights the cleaning icon so housekeeping knows without knocking.

Indoor DND/MUR Panel

What does the indoor panel do? It is the in-room control. The guest touches Do Not Disturb or Make Up Room, and the linked outdoor plate updates its display; DND also silences the doorbell.

What is the indoor panel made of? Tempered glass or stainless steel, with or without a frame, and a blue LED backlight. Surface and frame colours can be changed.

What size is the indoor panel? Common sizes are 85 × 85 mm and 86 × 86 mm (depth 42 mm); larger 86 × 172 mm panels are available for models that add an energy-saver reader and light switches.

Online System

Does it need a room control unit (RCU)? No. The online system works without a separate RCU, which simplifies wiring and installation.

What can staff see with the online system? Live room information over the network, DND / MUR / Service status on the outdoor plate, a touch-screen panel in the room, and central room-status indicating (occupancy and requests).

Energy Saver (card-key power switch)

What is the energy saver switch? A card-key power switch at the room entrance: the guest inserts the key card to power the room, and the system cuts power a short time after the card is removed, saving energy in empty rooms.

What are the energy saver specifications? 86 × 86 mm, up to 40 A, 220 V direct connection, with a 20-second power-off delay after the card is removed. It works with Temic and Mifare cards.

Does it need a contactor? For standard rooms the built-in relay is enough. For high-current loads (for example an air-conditioning system) a 60 A AC contactor is added so the switch can handle the load safely (as on the LOC-PP500W).

Choosing the right configuration

Do I need an online system or a standalone one? A standalone system is ideal when you mainly want DND/MUR, doorbell and energy saving per room. Choose the online system when the front desk and housekeeping need live, centralized room status across the property.

Which indoor panel should I choose — glass or stainless steel? Both perform the same core function. Tempered glass gives a frameless, modern look; stainless steel gives a durable, classic finish. Choose by design preference and the room’s décor.

When should I pick the larger 86 × 172 mm indoor panel? Choose it when you want the DND/MUR panel to also include the Mifare energy-saver reader and light switches in a single unit (e.g. TID500A/B/C), reducing the number of separate devices.

Do I need the energy saver on every room? It is recommended for every guest room, because the biggest savings come from automatically cutting power in unoccupied rooms.

Operation & troubleshooting

What happens when a guest inserts the key card? The occupation icon lights up and the room is powered; when the card is removed, the icon turns off and, after the delay, room power is cut.

Does the doorbell still work when Do Not Disturb is off? Yes. With DND off, pressing the outdoor bell button rings the bell normally.

How does housekeeping know a room wants cleaning? The guest presses Make Up Room on the indoor panel and the outdoor plate lights the cleaning icon, so staff see the request without knocking.

The room has no power after the guest left — is that a fault? No. That is the energy saver working as intended: it cuts power a short time after the card is removed.

Can guests read the panel at night? Yes. LED-backlit keys and indicators make the panel easy to see and operate in any light.
